Klatskin Tumor (Bile Duct Cancer) and Hilar Cholangiocarcinoma Surgery

  • For advanced cases of Klatskin tumor (bile duct cancer), Prof. Dr. Ünal Aydın developed the first successful surgical technique for Type 3 and Type 4 cases, which were previously considered inoperable.

  • In 2008, the article titled “A New Technique of Biliary Reconstruction After ‘High Hilar Resection’ of Hilar Cholangiocarcinoma with Tumor Extension to Secondary and Tertiary Biliary Radicals” was published in the Annals of Surgical Oncology, introducing this groundbreaking surgical method.

  • Thanks to this technique, surgeries previously considered impossible worldwide became feasible, and the method was described by medical authorities as a “promising surgical approach.”

  • The technique made it possible to reconstruct multiple biliary ducts, offering a new treatment option for patients previously deemed inoperable.

  • This method enables reconstruction of up to 12 ducts, significantly improving survival rates in patients with Klatskin tumors (bile duct cancer).

  • As one of the surgeons with the most experience in Klatskin tumor surgery worldwide, his innovative techniques have been recognized and cited in medical literature.

Obesity and Metabolic Surgery

  • Conducted studies on a sleeve gastrectomy technique developed using posterior gastric ligaments.
